Anti-mould painting in Barcelona

Painting is a finish, not a magic fix. If mould, peeling paint or recurring marks are still on the wall or ceiling, the surface needs preparation first. You can write in English.

When to contact us

This page is for you when the surface is already in good shape and you need a final coat of paint. Common cases:

  • a clean wall or ceiling without mould that you want refreshed
  • a bathroom ceiling after treatment, when the base is sound
  • an area already prepared and needing an even finish
  • a room with frequent condensation where the zone was treated and you now want paint

Before painting we check: whether old paint holds, whether mould is present, whether the mark has returned before. That decides the order of work.

When painting is not the first step

It is not a good idea to paint if the wall or ceiling feels soft, paint is coming away, marks are active or mould has not been treated. Everything can look flat for a few weeks — then the problem returns.

If the area was painted before and the mark came back, it helps to know what was done: was the surface treated, did the old paint hold, was there damp?

What a ready surface looks like

“Dry enough to paint” is not the same as “the stain looks lighter today”. We look for a stable surface: no visible mould, no loose edge around the old paint, no soft or powdery patch and no fresh halo after the room has been used normally. A ceiling can look dry from the floor while the layer underneath has lost its grip.

The material matters too. Sound painted plaster or plasterboard may only need local preparation before finishing. A cracked joint in plasterboard can be a movement or moisture question before it is a painting question. On masonry, salts, crumbling render or a cold damp band point away from a cosmetic finish. We do not diagnose a building fault from one photograph, but we do not paint over those signs as though they were just discolouration.

Anti-mould paint is not a treatment underneath the paint film. It is a finishing product for a prepared interior surface. If the same point becomes cold and wet with condensation every winter, or a leak is active, repainting alone is insufficient.

The most useful things are:

  1. A wide shot of the wall, ceiling or bathroom — room context.
  2. A close-up of the surface — no flash, in focus.
  3. A few words — whether the area was treated before and whether you have painted it.

If you only want painting, say so. That helps us answer honestly: whether paint is enough or another job should come first. If the photos are unclear, we will say so.

How the work usually goes

We look at the surface from photos and on site when needed. After that it may involve:

  • final preparation of small details before painting
  • painting when the base is ready

If the wall or ceiling still needs treatment or repair, we say so before starting. We do not hide problems under paint.

What to include with your photos

Alongside the wide shot and close-up, tell us which room it is, whether the mark followed a leak, rain or shower use, and whether it has already been painted over. A photo of the edge where sound paint meets damaged paint is often more useful than a close-up of the darkest point. If the area is high, a wider image from the doorway is safer and more informative than climbing to photograph it.

We serve Barcelona and arrange work outward into the metropolitan area and the coast after looking at the case. We do not claim a permanent office in Maresme, Sitges, Blanes or Lloret de Mar. If your property is a second home, say how long it has been closed: that changes the questions we ask before proposing any finish.

Bathroom and the ceiling above the shower

A bathroom can be painted when we are talking about the visible interior surface: the ceiling above the shower, a zone with condensation, a wall by the shower enclosure, a finish after preparation.

Not included: finding leaks from photos, plumbing, or work tied to the flat above. If the mark is growing, dripping or looks like an active leak, the cause needs to be understood first.

What we do not promise

Painting is a finish, not an answer to every damp problem. We do not promise mould will never return, name brands or lifespans, or quote a price without seeing the case.

If damp or condensation keeps appearing in the same zone, paint alone is not enough.

If the main issue is a mark on the surface — mould removal. If the wall is more damaged — damp wall repair. If the problem is on the ceiling — damp ceiling repair.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Short answers. Question not listed — write on WhatsApp in English.

Can I write in English?

Yes. We reply in English on WhatsApp.

Can I paint straight over the mark?

Usually not. If mould is still visible, paint is peeling or the mark has returned before, the surface needs preparation first.

Does this include a bathroom ceiling?

Yes, when it is the interior ceiling surface and it is already prepared. If paint is coming away or the mark is growing, we look at the base first.

Do you use special anti-mould paint?

We do not name brands or quote efficacy percentages. Painting is the final step after preparation — not a substitute for proper treatment.

Can you guarantee the mould will not come back?

No. Paint improves the look and protects a prepared surface, but it does not remove the cause of damp or poor ventilation.
