Mould keeps coming back after cleaning: what to check
If a mark returns in the same place, the surface or the room conditions usually need a different response. This guide sorts common reasons and the next step — without quick-fix promises.
Where it usually appears
What you can check yourself
When to contact us
You can write in English — we reply in English. We usually reply quickly. If we are on a job, it may take up to 2–3 hours.
Why it shows up again
You clean a mark and it reappears in the same place — often within weeks. That usually means moisture in the zone or on the surface is still an issue. It does not always mean structural disaster. In Barcelona flats, condensation, poor ventilation, cold corners and bathrooms with constant steam are very common.
We do not name the exact cause of every damp problem from one photo. This page helps you read recurrence more clearly and decide whether another clean, habit changes or surface work makes sense.
Signs that change the approach
Take the case more seriously if, as well as returning, you notice:
- paint lifting, bubbling or peeling when you wipe
- several marks in the same room
- a persistent damp smell
- marks in corners, by windows or behind furniture
- a bathroom where the ceiling or joints darken again within weeks
Repeating the same cleaner is then usually temporary.
Condensation, ventilation and cold zones
In winter many Barcelona flats show returning marks: fogged windows, laundry drying indoors, furniture tight to party walls. Better ventilation and less moisture in the air help — but not always if the support is already damaged.
Why painting over it often fails
A fresh coat can hide a mark for a while. If the base is damp or unstable, bubbles and dark patches return. Understand the surface before repainting.
What to send on WhatsApp
Send:
- a wide shot of the room or bathroom
- a close-up of the returning zone
- how often it comes back after cleaning
- whether you have painted and how you ventilate after showers
The first photo review is free — see contact.
When professional surface work may fit
If the mark returns regularly or the paint is failing, mould removal or damp wall repair may fit. We do not promise mould will never return: how the room is used and ventilated matters too.
Quick checklist before you clean again
Before repeating the same cleaner or opening paint, ask:
- Does the mark always come back in the same spot, or in several zones?
- Is the paint sound, or does it lift, bubble or peel when you wipe?
- Is the room ventilated daily, or closed for long hours?
- Is there fog on windows, furniture tight to the wall, or frequent steam in a bathroom?
- Have you already painted over it and the problem returned?
If several answers point to recurrence or a damaged surface, photos on WhatsApp are usually the better next step — not another isolated clean.
What photos help when mould returns
Send a wide shot of the room, a close-up of the returning zone, and a note on how long it takes to come back after cleaning. Say if you have painted before. If the mark sits behind furniture or by a foggy window, that context matters.
You do not need a long report. Those three pieces are usually enough to say whether mould removal, damp wall repair or better ventilation habits should come first.
